Britain Is the Home of Soccer. Soccer began to evolve in modern Europe from the medieval period onwards. Somewhere around the 9th century, entire towns in England would kick a pig’s bladder from one landmark to another. The game was often seen as a nuisance and was even banned during some periods of Britain’s history.
The early years. Modern football originated in Britain in the 19th century. Since before medieval times, “ folk football ” games had been played in towns and villages according to local customs and with a minimum of rules.
In 1823, Ellis was the first person noted for picking up the ball during the soccer game and running with it, thereby breaking and changing the rules. In 1876, at the Massosoit convention, the first attempts at writing down the rules of American football were made.
Most players come from where one might expect: the largest cities: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, DC, and Dallas lead the way. This insight is as unsurprising as it is uninstructive. When measured by the ratio of pro players produced to metro-wide population, a different picture emerges.
Football (soccer) is very popular among Spaniards, and they have several high-performing teams. Spain has a diverse culture, shaped by thousands of years of occupation by different empires. The ancient Greeks, Romans, Moors, Celts, Carthaginians and Phoenicians who settled in the country all left their mark on the cultural heritage of the country.
Basketball, game played between two teams of five players each on a rectangular court, usually indoors. Each team tries to score by tossing the ball through the opponent’s goal, an elevated horizontal hoop and net called a basket. It is the only major sport strictly of U.S. origin.
The History of Competitive Swimming Competitive swimming was first introduced in the early 1800’s in Britain by the National Swimming Society. At that time, there were man-made indoor pools in London and the National Swimming Society of England used them for swimming competitions.
